Getting set up.
- Nothing to install but the extension
- No API key to paste in
- Nothing to configure
Add the browser extension, sign in once, and you are done. Here is each step, in order.
-
Add the extension
Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click Add to Chrome.
Add to ChromeThen pin it from the puzzle-piece menu in your toolbar, so it is one click away.
Works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers. Updates arrive on their own through the Web Store.
-
Sign in
Context Move opens a tab of its own as soon as it is installed. Sign in with Google there.
Just the once. The session stays in your browser, and your conversations never go with it.
-
Save your first conversation
Open a chat on any supported site and click the save button the extension adds. The thread and its attachments are kept in your browser, on your computer. Click the toolbar icon to find it again.
Works on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Copilot, Lovable and Replit.
If something looks wrong
Five things people run into, and the fix for each.
There is no save button on the chat page
Refresh the tab. The extension adds its button as a page loads, so a tab you already had open will not have one yet.
The Context Move tab never opened
Click the Context Move icon in your toolbar. If you cannot see it, open the puzzle-piece menu and pin it first. It opens the same page, any time.
Saving fails
Reload the chat tab and try again. If it still fails, open Context Move from the toolbar icon and check that you are signed in.
I used the old desktop app. Where are my chats?
Still in the desktop app, until you bring them over. Leave the app open, then in the extension go to Settings → Backup & Move and choose Bring everything over from the app.
Will removing the extension delete my chats?
Yes. They live inside your browser, so removing the extension removes them. Download a backup from Settings → Backup & Move, or connect Google Drive, before you do.
